Introduction and Definition

For the Haiti project, we will be building with modular panels which feature a paper based, honeycomb style core. This method of building is not often used, therefore the focus of discussion will be on Structural Insulated Panels, which has much more documentation provided, and is almost identical in application.

Definition:

What is a SIP? A SIP is a modular building material most commonly comprised of an EPS (expandable polystyrene) core and OSB (an engineered plywood) faces. They are considered structural, typically premade in factories, and are superior in transverse and axial load bearing compared to traditional wood frame building.
